Health Insurance: how much it really costs

It is my distinct pleasure to announce that I’ll be interviewing Sylvia Matthews Burwell on Thursday, January 29 at 12:30 Live on YouTube. I’ll share the link and details in a future post. In my preparations for the interview, I put out a call for questions on Facebook. I was somewhat surprised by the questions coming in and it caused me to evaluate my own employer based insurance plan and the associated costs. Employer Based Health Insurance … [Read more...]

Stanford Medicine X 2014: The Experience

Stanford Medicine X 2014 was more than a conference, it was an experience. So much so, that I actually had a conference hangover when I returned home. There's a hashtag over on Twitter for #MedXhangover, it's like REALLY a thing. I know it's a thing, because I had it. Where do I start? From the opening rave on Friday at 8:00:00AM (that's 8 o'clock on the dot ) until Marvin Calderon, Jr. brought down the house on Sunday afternoon, MedX exceeded … [Read more...]

Come with Me to Stanford MedicineX in Silicon Valley

I had an ugly cry a few days ago when I happened across a YouTube of Ms. Oprah at Stanford, having a Q & A with their graduate school of business students. It was an ugly cry because at that moment I realized that I too will soon be at Stanford, sitting on a similar stage to the one Oprah was gracing. It is my distinct pleasure to attend Stanford MedicineX conference this year as an e-patient scholar. What exactly is an ePatient? An … [Read more...]

My 23andMe DNA Results!

The results are in from 23andMe ! Yay! Let's see what they had to say about me. Do you remember my post about why I chose 23andMe? Well, I'm finally sharing my results :-) I'm not too surprised by the ancestry my DNA shows. I assumed I had West African heritage because of the history of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. It's nice to get confirmation through haplotype testing that shows I'm closely linked folks originating from Nigeria. … [Read more...]
